FAQs
What ages do you see?
Mental health and addiction counseling is available to clients ages 23 and up. For mental health counseling for individuals with Down syndrome, Kate will see clients 18 and up.
What are some of the issues you treat?
Kate has a wide scope of experience - ranging from anxiety, depression, navigating stressors and transitions, eating-related issues, and more. I also have specialty training in substance use and misuse.
Do you accept insurance?
The Journey is pleased to offer in-network services for the following plans: Aetna, Cigna, BCBS, Ambetter, UHC/UMR, Oscar, and Oxford. Self-pay rates can be found on the ‘Insurance and Fees’ tab. For those wishing to utilize out-of-network benefits, we are happy to provide a superbill. The client is responsible for communicating with their insurance company if out-of-network benefits are available. Please note, coverage may not be available with all plans in all states. An insurance verification can confirm coverage.
Where are services located?
All therapy sessions can be held virtually via secure, HIPAA-compliant link for those in NC and SC. Clinical supervision can be held in-person in Charlotte, NC, or virtually from anywhere in NC.
What is your cancellation policy?
We kindly request that all sessions (therapy and supervision) be cancelled with at least 24 hours notice to avoid a late-cancellation/no-show fee.
What is a ‘Good Faith Estimate’, and why should I care about it?
The “Good Faith Estimate” or “No Surprises Act” provides transparency for services provided, especially when not utilizing insurance. At The Journey, service fees are clearly explained on our website and, at any time, an itemized superbill will be provided. To read more about “Good Faith Estimates” and the “No Surprise Act” click here: https://www.cms.gov/medical-bill-rights/help/guides/good-faith-estimate
Is everything confidential?
Yes. Everything you share in therapy is confidential, with a few legal and safety exceptions. These exceptions will be explained clearly at the beginning of our work together, so you know exactly where confidentiality boundaries sit.
What if therapy brings up difficult emotions?
Therapy can sometimes bring up challenging feelings, but this is always approached with care, support, and grounding. You’re never expected to go further than feels safe, and we move at a pace that respects your emotional wellbeing.
Do you diagnose mental health conditions?
Yes. Two reasons:
Insurance requires it. If we're billing your plan, they need a diagnosis on file to cover treatment. That's just how the system works.
It gives us a roadmap. A diagnosis isn't a label or a verdict on who you are. It's a working map of what's going on, and it shapes what treatment looks like and where we start.
Can therapy help if my life looks “fine” on the outside?
Yes. Many people come to therapy even when things appear okay externally. Therapy isn’t about comparing struggles - it’s about supporting your inner experience.
How do I book a session?
You can request to book a consultation or therapy session directly on this website
What if I’m unsure or nervous about starting?
Feeling unsure or nervous is completely normal. A free consultation offers a gentle way to explore therapy without pressure or commitment.
What if we’re not the right fit?
Finding the right therapist matters. If it doesn’t feel like the right fit, that’s okay. I’m happy to support you in thinking about next steps or alternative options.
How much does therapy cost?
Session fees and payment information are listed on the Insurance & Fees page. If you have questions about pricing, you’re welcome to ask during the free consultation.
How do I get in touch?
You can use the contact form on this website or email me directly at hello@thejourneypllc.com. I’ll respond as soon as I can.
